What this test is
HbA1c tells you how much sugar has been sticking to your red blood cells over their lifespan — about 90 to 120 days. A single fasting sugar shows where you are right now; HbA1c shows where you've been. ADA cut-offs: under 5.7% is normal, 5.7–6.4% is pre-diabetic, 6.5% and above is diabetic. Once diagnosed, most doctors aim for under 7%. The test does not require fasting and is checked every 3–6 months for people with diabetes.

FAQs
What's a good HbA1c if I have diabetes?
Most doctors aim for under 7%, but the target depends on your age, other health conditions, and risk of low blood sugar. Discuss with your physician. Why no fasting?
HbA1c reflects long-term sugar exposure, not what you ate this morning. So fasting makes no difference to the result. How often should I repeat it?
Every 3 months if your diabetes is not under control, every 6 months if it is stable. Will iron deficiency affect HbA1c?
Yes — significant anaemia can falsely raise or lower HbA1c. Tell us if you have known anaemia or a recent transfusion.Home collection?
Yes, available across Moshi, Pimpri, Chinchwad, Bhosari, and Wakad at no extra cost.
