A stool routine examination looks for parasites (giardia, amoeba), worms, undigested food, blood, mucus, and white cells. It is the first investigation for persistent diarrhoea, chronic abdominal pain, or unexplained weight loss. Sample collection at home is acceptable as long as it reaches the lab within 1–2 hours in a clean, sealed container.
