What this test is

Typhidot detects IgM antibodies that the body makes specifically against Salmonella typhi outer membrane proteins. It becomes positive earlier than Widal (from day 4–5 of fever) and has fewer false positives, making it the preferred typhoid screening test in most Indian labs today.

  • Fever for more than 4 days suspected to be typhoid
  • Fever with relative slow pulse and abdominal symptoms
  • Differentiating typhoid from dengue or malaria

How to prepare

  • No fasting required.

FAQs

  • When does Typhidot become positive?
From day 4–5 of fever — earlier than Widal. IgM can stay positive for 2–3 months after recovery.
  • Is one test enough?
Typhidot is more reliable in single sample than Widal. Blood culture remains the gold standard if the diagnosis must be confirmed.
