What this test is
The Thyroid Profile reports T3, T4 (the active hormones) and TSH (the brain signal that controls them). Hypothyroidism (sluggish thyroid) is very common in Indian women — symptoms include fatigue, weight gain, dry skin, and cold intolerance. Hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) causes weight loss, palpitations and anxiety. TSH is the most sensitive marker — even a slightly raised TSH with normal T3/T4 suggests early thyroid dysfunction.
This panel reports 3 parameters
- Total T3
- Total T4
- TSH

FAQs
Should I take my thyroxine before the test?
No — take it AFTER the blood draw. Thyroxine in the bloodstream temporarily raises T4 readings and gives a misleading result. Why morning?
TSH levels are highest in the early morning and drop through the day. Consistent morning sampling gives comparable numbers across visits.Should I do a free T3/T4 instead?
Total T3/T4 is usually enough for routine monitoring. Free T3/T4 is ordered when there are interfering conditions like pregnancy. How long should I wait between tests?
If you're adjusting medication, retest after 6–8 weeks. For monitoring stable hypothyroidism, every 6–12 months.
